Beef and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes

Beef and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

For the Mashed Potatoes:

4–5 russet potatoes, peeled and cubed

2 tablespoons butter

1/2 cup milk (more if needed)

Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Ground Beef and Gravy:

1 pound lean ground beef

1 onion, chopped

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups beef broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and black pepper, to taste

Optional: garlic powder, onion powder, or a pinch of thyme for extra flavor

---

Instructions

1. Make the Mashed Potatoes:

Place peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt.

Bring to a boil and cook until potatoes are fork-tender, about 15–20 minutes.

Drain and return to the pot. Add butter and mash until smooth.

Stir in milk a little at a time until creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and keep warm.

2. Prepare the Beef and Gravy:

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until beef is browned and onion is soft. Drain excess fat.

Sprinkle the flour over the beef and stir well, cooking for 1–2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.

Gradually stir in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until well combined.

Bring to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens, about 5–7 minutes.

Season with salt, pepper, and optional seasonings to taste.

3. To Serve:

Spoon a generous portion of mashed potatoes onto each plate.

Top with the beef and rich brown gravy.

Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Pro Tip: For an extra indulgent touch, stir a little sour cream or shredded cheese into the mashed potatoes before serving.
