Sweet Blueberry Biscuits
A soft, buttery treat with fresh blueberries and a sweet glaze — a perfect Southern-inspired indulgence.
---
Ingredients
For the Biscuits:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup cold milk
⅓ cup granulated sugar
5 tablespoons butter (cold or frozen)
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 ounces blueberries (fresh or dried)
For the Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
⅛ cup water (2 tablespoons)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon lemon juice
---
Instructions
1. Prep the Butter:
Place 5 tablespoons of butter in the freezer for about an hour before you start. You want it frozen solid.
2. Preheat Oven:
Set your oven to 450°F (232°C).
3. Make the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add the cold milk and blueberries, and mix until just combined (don’t overmix).
4. Incorporate Butter:
Grate or break the frozen butter into small chunks. Gently fold it into the dough.
Knead the dough a few times on a floured surface, folding it to distribute the butter evenly throughout. Repeat 2–3 times.
5. Roll & Cut:
Roll out the dough to about ¼ to ⅛ inch thick.
Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut out 6 biscuits.
6. Bake:
Place biscuits on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake for 7 to 12 minutes, or until golden on top and cooked through.
7. Finish with Butter:
While hot, brush the tops with 1 tablespoon melted butter.
8. Make the Glaze:
Mix together powdered sugar, water, vanilla, and lemon juice until smooth.
Drizzle generously over warm biscuits.

Tips:
Use fresh blueberries if possible — they burst with flavor.
Dried blueberries work too, especially in off-seasons — soak them in warm water for 10 minutes to plump them up.
For extra decadence, serve with honey butter or clotted cream on the side.
