OKLAHOMA NUT CANDY

Oklahoma Nut Candy is a traditional holiday treat that’s rich, chewy, and packed with nuts. It's often associated with old-fashioned recipes passed down through families. Here's a simple recipe for making this delicious candy:

Oklahoma Nut Candy Recipe

Ingredients:

3 cups granulated sugar

1 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, or a mix)

1/2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut (optional)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Nuts:

Chop the nuts and set them aside. You can toast them lightly for extra flavor.

2. Cook the Syrup:

In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sugar and milk. Stir to dissolve and heat over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil.

3. Cook to Soft Ball Stage:

Use a candy thermometer to cook the mixture to the soft ball stage (235–240°F or 112–116°C). If you don’t have a thermometer, drop a small amount of syrup into a glass of cold water. If it forms a soft ball, it's ready.

4. Add Flavoring and Nuts:

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, chopped nuts, and coconut (if using).

5. Stir to Thicken:

Stir the mixture until it thickens and begins to lose its shine, which means it's starting to set.

6. Shape the Candy:

Quickly spoon the mixture onto waxed paper or parchment paper in small mounds or spread it into a greased pan to cool.

7. Cool and Serve:

Let the candy cool completely. If you used a pan, cut the candy into squares. Store in an airtight container.

Enjoy this nostalgic

sweet treat, perfect for holidays or as a homemade gift!
